The border between the United States and Canada runs through the middle of Lakes Erie and Ontario.  On the American side, the length of the coastline is 522 miles and borders on four states. Unfortunately, plans for exhibitions and events often stop at state lines.  The Battle of Lake Erie was won, in large part, through interstate cooperation and inspiring leadership – these are themes that continue to resonate today and can contribute to a meaningful and successful bicentennial commemoration.  Oliver Hazard Perry would often sum it up with a simple toast:  “To the Union of the States!”
